Rat information

Rats generally are brown in colour, generally weigh an average 300g and are approximately 440mm in length including their tail. Rats can have between 3 and 6 litters per year, can breed all year and one pair of rats can have up to 200 young in one year.

Cautions

Rats pose a very significant risk, they can carry a number of diseases including: – Weils disease, E-Coli, Salmonella, TB and Cryptosporidiosis. They also carry fleas, mites and ticks.

Firstly to ensure that all holes are sealed, rats can get through very small gaps. Foodstuffs should be stored in airtight containers and areas such as under cookers, fridges etc should be cleaned regularly. Outside make sure rubbish is stored in sealed dustbins. Check all sewers as this is a favoured route of rats to get into your home or business.

The House Mouse can be grey, brown or almost black in colour. It weighs on average 15g and is anything between 16-19cm including its tail.
